Who Pays for the Arts?

The Goodland Carnegie Arts Center is governed by the Goodland Arts Council— an independent, not-for-profit, community supported organization.  That means we are supported by YOU!
There are many ways to show your support of the Arts Center, including membership, business sponsorship, bi-annual fundraisers, purchasing from our gift shop, buying work from exhibiting artists, and monthly adult and kids’ classes.

Free Programs! Did you know the Arts Center reaches over 550 children and adults every month with free programming?  We accomplish this in a couple of ways.  By growing an existing program, the Arts Center began providing monthly classes for kids in elementary schools within USD 352.  Director Abby Killingsworth visits each classroom every month.  These projects incorporate a brief art history lesson and hands-on projects.  So far this has included ceramics, pastels, collage and scratch boards.  You can view some of these projects and more during the Elementary Art Show; which runs from Feb 3- Feb 25, 2019.  Reception is Sunday Feb 3 at 2 p.m.

Another way we engage the community in free programming is through Open Studio.  One of our most successful and engaging events; every Saturday since spring of 2017 the Arts Center Basement Studio opens its doors to families and individuals for three hours of art making.  Our materials, tools and space are available free of charge for painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry-making, and much more.

This program is also the beneficiary of the matched funds from the Sherman County Community Foundation’s 2018 Match Day.  We will be using the funds to keep the program free and fully stocked with quality art supplies.
